Talent development programme

This programme guides six talented writers and illustrators from six different European countries to produce inclusive stories for children. Each participant is matched to a mentor, who is an experienced author or illustrator. During the programme, the participants follow workshops and online masterclasses to deepen their knowledge of inclusive storytelling.

In 2020, Every Story Matters organises 15 workshops for librarians and teachers. In various libraries in Portugal we will focus on bibliodiversity. How can reading mediators offer a plurality of voices to their readers? What limitations do they face?

School workshops
Germany, Berlin
March - November 2020
5 workshops in digital storytelling, training around 50 children and young adults.
Each student will create a short story on an A4 paper, combining drawing, collage, text writing, and multimedia content using the augmented reality technique. The workshop gives the students a basic understanding of digital narratives, storytelling, and the importance of inclusion.

Zagreb Book Festival 2021. will feature a whole program line dedicated to pointing out the importance of inclusion in literature. This will be done through organizing several events such as panel discussion themed Books: windows and mirrors of the world or as author events with an established inclusive writer presenting his work and sharing his/her experiences about this field of literature.

Throughout the festival week, several events with diverse authors will be organized in Zagreb schools, libraries, and bookstores. The idea behind them is to share experiences, teach about the importance of tolerance, the role of inclusive books in developing tolerance and empathy and motivate young people from minority groups to create and others to consume this kind of literature.

The promotion of manuscripts created by participants of the Talent development program will be promoted at Zagreb Book Festival 2022. All of the participants and mentors will have an opportunity to talk about their experiences working in the program and read or show parts of their work.

All of the participants will have an opportunity to talk about their experiences working in the program to students, kids, and young adults through several events organized in schools, libraries, and bookstores. This kind of communication will be more intimate and will potentially allow significant exchange between authors and the audience.

To finish the Talent Development Programme, the participants will give a multimedia presentation of their inclusive stories. Their stories and books will be pitched to a wider audience of publishers and other interested parties from different countries.
